James Robert “Biggen” Sellars, age 28 of Joplin, passed away at 12:35 p.m. on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis after a sudden illness.
Born October 27, 1983 in Girard, Kan. he was raised in Cherokee (Crawford County), Kan., where he attended school and participated in Boy Scouts. He was a Christian. He graduated from Tulsa Welding Institute and worked as a certified pressure welder for Mohawk Field Services. A skilled outdoorsman, he was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting. He was well loved by all who met him, a “gentle giant” who was very big hearted.
Preceding him in death were his father, Sheriff James Patrick Sellars; paternal grandfather, Eugene (Sheep) Sellars; paternal grandmother, Della Sellars; uncles, Dan and Sam Sellars; maternal grandmother, Lela Lybarger; maternal great-grandmother, Clara Peterson; close friend and co-worker, Randell Turrentine.
Survivors include his mother, Kelly Bratton Denney of Joplin. He was lucky enough to have a second father, Joe Denney of Joplin. Also surviving are children, Tyler, Blake, Mikaela, Abby, Aden and Lily; brothers, Jonathan L. Brisbin, Greg and Dustin Denney; sisters, Carie Elsey, Cindy and Rachel Sellars, Christa Viley, Danielle Christmas, Casey VanStorey; very special friend, Jessica Rue; aunts, Mary Jo Stotts, Becky Forkner, Susan Doner; uncle, Tim Doner; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary. Several memorial gatherings will be held by the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Parker Mortuary to help the family with final expenses.
