Richard Eugene Elliott, age 80, of Joplin, passed from this life on Saturday, August 17, 2013 at Spring River Christian Village following a short illness. He was born in Girard, Kansas on September 7, 1932 to W.D. and Violet Elliott.
Richard graduated from Pittsburg High School, followed by service in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was employed by Satterlee Mechanical Contractors until his retirement in 1997. Following his retirement, he served as a volunteer builder for Habitat for Humanity and enjoyed black powder shooting until his health forced him to discontinue it earlier this year. He was a longtime member of several gun clubs in the four-state area.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, W.D. “Dan” Elliott, Jr. and Louis Elliott.
Survivors include his wife, Diane Reid Elliott; son, Gregory Elliott of Rogers, Arkansas; daughter, Heather Elliott of Joplin; step-son, Reid Roney of Platte City, Missouri. He was a wonderful grandfather to Scott Elliott, Dylan and Chandler Coles, Hunter McAffrey, and Kegan and Khaleesi Roney, and great-granddaughter, Alana. He is also survived by brother-in-law and best friend, Robert F. (Bob) Reid and three nephews.
A memorial service honoring Richard’s life will be held on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. David Burgess officiating.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to First Presbyterian Church of Joplin, or the American Cancer Society.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
