Lloyd Bailey

U.S. Veteran

Lloyd J. Bailey, age 83, Joplin, passed away at 9:42 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family after a short illness.

Lloyd was born April 12, 1928 in the Carl Junction, Missouri area to the late Harry R. Bailey and Nellie Bates Bailey.

He worked as a metallurgist and machinist for Rocketdynne, then Teledyne in Neosho, retiring in 1988. Lloyd was an honorary member of the J.C. Penney Retirees, and also a minister of music at McKinley Avenue Baptist Church where he was a member for 45 years. Presently he has been an active member of Fellowship Baptist Church for 18 years. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and served during the Korean War. He was a man of few words, but when he spoke, he spoke words of wisdom and love.

Lloyd married Thelma E. Durham of Carl Juction on August 8, 1948 in Joplin. She survives at the home.

In addition to his parents, Lloyd was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters and one great grandchild.

Survivors include his daughters, Wanda Shellenbarger and husband Kent of Carl Junction; Linda Brockett and husband Michael of Tulsa, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Lisa Day and husband Chris; Dana Wilkins and husband Guy; Aaron Brockett and wife Lindsay; Kali Skar and husband Matt; nine great grandchildren, Morgan, Samuel, Conor, Campbell, Braxton, Kennedi, Brody, Sadie and Kadence.

Funeral services are planned for Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church. Rev. John Sherwood, Rev. Aaron Brockett, and Rev. Martin Brockett will officiate. Burial will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with Military honors performed. Kent Shellenbarger, Mike Brockett, Chris Day, Guy Wilkins, Aaron Brockett and Matt Skar will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Wednesday at the church.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Fellowship Baptist Church Building Fund or the Missouri Baptist Children's Home, 11300 St. Charles Rock Road, Bridgton, Missouri, 63044.
