Rosalie Sharon Whaley

Rosalie Sharon Whaley, age 68 of Joplin, passed away at her home with her loving family at 9:10 a.m. on Friday, March 16, 2012.

Rosalie was born on March 23, 1943 in Joplin to the late Ralph Edward Tankersley and Inez Iona (Sooter) Tankersley, and had lived in the Joplin area her lifetime. Even at 9 months pregnant with her daughter, she was out chasing insects with groups of children, enjoying every minute. She loved her dogs and cats, and they returned that love unconditionally.

Rosalie married her one true love, the man of her dreams, Melvin Eugene Whaley on Feb. 21, 1960 in Miami, Okla. He passed away Dec. 30, 2008. A brother, Bud Hughes, also preceded her in death.

Survivors include 2 sons, Kelvin Eugene Whaley and wife Laurie of Carthage, Travis Kyle Whaley and wife Adrian of Joplin; one daughter, Latisha Romelle Whaley of Joplin; 3 granddaughters Alysia (Sugar foot) and husband, Eric Obert, Stephanie and husband Paul Thornton, Shamera Hall; grandson, Gregory Stafford; 4 great-granddaughters, Olivia, Addison, Elizabeth and Audrey; 2 great-grandsons, Paul and Cole; stepmother, Paulette Tankersley of Galena, Kan.; two sisters, Arlene Hughes of Corona, Calif., Rachelle Smith and husband Tony of Neosho, Mo.; one brother, Ralph Tankersley and wife Kelly of Belton, Ill.; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside services will be held 11:30 a.m. Monday at Osborne Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Bob Simon officiating. Pallbearers will be Kelvin and Travis Whaley, Gregory Stafford, Ralph Tankersley, Tony Smith, Ted Epperson and Eric Obert. The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Monday preceding the graveside service.
